Satara & Pretoriuskop, Kruger Park 2020

24 photos

Pretoriuskop was our stop-off point before the big trek to Satara. It's close to Numbi Gate and so we stayed there the night we arrived and the night before we left.

Satara is about 140 km to the north and at a maximum speed of 50 km an hour it really is a trek, but so,so worth it. The place seems saturated with lions which of course I couldn't get on my little camera but I enjoy making little stories of the other stuff we see.

The older giraffes may apply for position of "Tourist Bait" - as such they position themselves very near the gates of the park nonchalantly showing off their beauty. It's a hard job but someone has to do it.
The long road home after a day of amusing tourists...
Lots of youngsters here - it appeared to be a primary school for giraffes.
The Lesser Spotted Wild Goat - can take more than 40 years to domesticate this beast.
So close I could fill the screen, but very peaceful, only interested in munching on the greenery.
No collection of Kruger pics is complete without a shot of an elephant's bum.
Splish, splash, I was taking a bath....
The nursery school on it's way back from a mud bath.
Watching them closely while we put our tent up - turn your back for a sec and your veg supply for the week is gone!
Within seconds of us stopping at Pretoriuskop this monkey had stolen Dad's peach out of a plastic bag in the back of the vehicle!
It's obligatory to add a pic of an impala. I'm bummed that I chopped off his feet though.
The kudu is such an elegant buck - the ears have the most gorgeous colours inside them.
The Legendary Leopard Tortoise is named not just for his colouring - when this boy gets up on those legs he can move - you have to be quick with that camera.
The hyena is the most fascinating beast. This one taken through a rainy windscreen looks even more sinister than usual.
Spot the hyena's head next to the car window - it was that close! Unfortunately on Dad's side of the car so couldn't snap it properly.
And there he goes, off to make evil plans with other hyenas.
Day One at the Zebra Restaurant. The one lioness is guarding while the other goes off for a drink. Hard to capture without a lens that costs the same as a small car!
Day Two at the Zebra Restaurant - we were expecting hyenas and vultures, but no, the same two lionesses were still there. The one has gorged itself to the extent of lying on its back with paws in the air.
What can one say about the good old gnu? He doesn't like to pose and is quite hard to capture. He normally hangs with the zebras who like to hog the limelight.
Just doing what they do best - outshining the poor old gnu.
The Southern Ground Hornbill aka Death Birds on Rietfontein - haven't seen ours for ages and apparently they are becoming very rare.
Spot the sneaky croc...
Ta da! My personal favourite - presenting the marabou stork aka the undertaker. Google him - he is fascinating.
You could call this my piece de resistance - it's not every day that a baboon shows you his penis.
